Meet Emma

Originally from New Zealand, I completed my schooling and began my career in NZ. Starting my career as a behavioral aide, this ignited my passion for behavioral intervention. I then transitioned to running a non-profit organisation that delivered social skills programs to individuals with Down Syndrome. Having completed my BA and PGDip at the University of Canterbury and my MA from the University of Waikato, I made the move to Canada in 2016.

Upon arriving in Canada, I settled in Canmore, AB and spent the next 6 years delivering and overseeing behavioural programming in the Bow Valley and surrounding areas (Banff, Canmore, Cochrane, Adrie & NW Calgary). During my time in Alberta, I supported children through private services, Program Unit Funding (PUF) and Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD).

My Husband and I made the move to Revelstoke in the Summer of 2022. Having now settled into our new home, I look forward to expanding the services I can deliver to children and families in this lovely mountain town.

Educational background:

BA Psycholggy & Education; PGDip Child & Family Psychology; MA Psychology (Applied Behaviour).

Approach to behavioral intervention:

My educational background in Education, Child and Family Psychology and Applied Behaviour allows me to take a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to behavioral intervention. My approach combines behavioral principles with frameworks related to regulation, cognitive development and play based interventions.  My primary goal when working with a child is to explore and identify the ‘why’ and function behind the behaviour. Once this is established, I then support those around the child in the implementation of practical and effective strategies to address target behaviors and develop related skills. I strongly believe in supporting families as a whole and taking the time to understand the wider context in which the behaviors are occurring.
